Gloryland Neighborhood Development Corporation

An independent 501(c)(3) non-profit for the purpose of purchasing and renovating distressed homes within the Parish boundaries. Our vision is to revitalize the neighborhoods surrounding Gesu and to offer affordable, renovated homes for sale to people of low and moderate income.

Our History: A Seed Planted By Gesu Catholic Church

Gloryland Neighborhoods Development Corporation (GNDC) is a non-profit organization created in 2017 by members of Gesu’s Peace and Justice homeless outreach committee as an extension of our Christian outreach ministry. GNDC purchases properties from the Detroit Land Bank in order to renovate them for low and moderate-income people who desire home ownership. The GNDC Board of Directors are members of the Parish and/or residents of the neighborhoods.

Our Service Area

Boundaries: North: Eight Mile Road East: Woodward Avenue South: Fenkell Road West: Meyers Road This area makes up the "Gesu Neighborhoods."

Our First Project: Woodingham Street in the Fitzgerald Neighborhood

  • October 2021: Upon the advice of our housing consultant, GNDC started our acquisition and rehab efforts by entering into a contact with Prime Renovation & Construction, a firm experienced in rehabbing Detroit Land Bank homes for sale or lease to investors.
  • January 2022: GNDC purchased three properties on Woodingham between Puritan and McNichols from the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA).
  • February 2023: We purchased a fourth property from the Detroit Land Bank.
  • Fall 2023: Our first three properties were fully renovated and sold to low- and moderate-income homeowners for prices ranging from $165,000 to $169,000.
  • Winter 2023: Renovations on the fourth property have been completed and the house has been listed for sale for $174,900. Check our social media sites listed below for updates.
Before After

Subsequent Projects
Any money after expenses received from the sale of rehabbed homes is set aside for purchasing and renovating more homes for low- and moderate-income residents. We are also open to renovating apartment buildings in our service area.

Other Programs and Services
In spring 2024, GNDC Board Member and construction expert Jim Sweeney offered a four-part, virtual home repair workshop series for Gesu parishioners and neighborhood residents. The series included practical lessons on repairs and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and miscellaneous home systems.
