Fr. Christopher Alt, S.J., grew up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where his journey toward Jesuit priesthood began at the local Newman Center. After studying at the University of San Diego and Boston College, he worked as a homeless shelter coordinator, hospital chaplain, and prison chaplain. He joined the Society of Jesus in 2016. In 2020, he earned a Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. During his regency (the “third phase” of Jesuit formation) he served as a school counselor at Christ the King Jesuit College Prep located in Chicago’s West side. He has completed a licentiate in sacred theology at the Jesuit School of Theology at the University of Santa Clara. There, he also served as a deacon and choir member at St. Benedict’s in Oakland. Fr. Christopher joined Gesu in 2024 and is excited about his role. He looks forward to serving and growing with the parish community and its surrounding neighborhood. One of his deepest joys and greatest gift received has been being formed within and by the Black Catholic community. As such, he is thrilled at the opportunity to continue ministry drawing upon the rich heritage of African American spirituality, culture, and religious experience. He will split his time between Gesu and other responsibilities in clinical social work.
